Mali


SAFE is involved in strengthening the capacity of agricultural education institutions in nine sub-Saharan Africa to play a more pivotal role in rural development by developing responsive, farmer-focused, formal continuing education programs for mid-career agricultural and rural development workers who will provide leadership in developing agricultural extension systems that effectively and efficiently contribute to sustained growth and transformation of agriculture. One of these country is Mali. The SAFE Program in Mali was started in 2002 through a partnership between SAFE, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Education and the Inistitute of Rural Technical Training and Applied research of Katibougou.

 

The purpose of the program is to contribute towards the agricultural and rural development efforts of Mali through the production of qualified humna resource in the field of agricultural extension required to raise agricultural production and productivity of the country.

 

The program in Mali assures continued inflow of students into the degree program at IPR/IFRA, University of Segou and the diploma program at Samanko. In total, more than 610 mid-career students benifited from the SAFE program in Mali since the inception of the program at IPR/IFRA, in 2003.

In addition, ten (10) candidates benifited from the SAFE scholarship so far. Currently, one faculty member of IPR/IFRA is enrolled for PhD study at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Benin. List of scholarship receipients in Mali are listed belowavailable.

Effective extension delivery systems in Sub-Saharan Africa that are based on farmer needs and demands along the entire agricultural value chain, with a special focus on smallholder farmers, most of whom are women.
